HAPPY THANKSGIVING / faces in places…

    Thursday, November 27th, 2008

As a chef’s wife one would think our table will be filled with the gourmet essentials that make up your traditional Thanksgiving feast. It’s really quite the opposite. We will have those fixin’s but more or less in the “To-Go Box” form. My husband will be at his restaurant serving up Turkey Dinner’s galore to over 1,000 reservations and the girlies and I will stay in our jammies, enjoy our day together, and bake some pies. This is our tradition. It’s the life of a chef’s wife to be all too understanding that all those fantastic days that people like to go out and eat (Thanksgiving, Valentine’s, and Mother’s Day) that we get to lend our spouse so you can celebrate.

But this is no pity party… trust me.

Gourmet Thanksgiving Feast with no clean-up… heck yes… I’m ALL signed up and have room in my ‘fridge waiting for those leftovers!!

From my home to yours, have a fantastic Thanksgiving Day.

I have so much to be thankful for, but want to say- if you are reading this ON Thanksgiving Day, I am truly Thankful TO YOU.

    xoxo,

    rebecca-linh

    ————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Though I do tend to peruse photography blogs- this obscure little blog “Faces in Places” I stumbled upon earlier this year is always sure to put a smile on my face. Oh, the randomness we can find in everyday life. I chose food image in particular for Thanksgiving Day.

I’d start this photography habit- but then it would become an obsession which would only make me believe I’m being watched everywhere I go. (I’m neurotic enough as it is!) So I leave it up to these creative folks who post on their flickr streams (no, I don’t have one) and the Faces in Places Blog so I can enjoy.

(you can click each photo to take you to the original Faces in Places blog entry).

    Houston, TX - Family Session

Finally- a session and it wasn’t sweltering hot! We had a great time shooting in the awesome weather. It’s not the first time I’ve had the pleasure of taking photos of the gorgeous Alma.

I originally met Alma, Mike, and Katherine while I was held a series of photos sessions for the Houston Baby Wearers last fall. Who knew from those sessions, they would be used all over the world to promote the benefits of baby wearing? I for one certainly did not! So I was thrilled when the HBW (Houston Baby Wearers) as well as the BWI (Baby Wearing International) asked if they could use my images for their website and promotional pieces. Alma, mom to Katherine and Calvin, is deeply involved with both organizations- she is one of the founders for the HBW and is the Treasurer for the IBW.
It is a total coincidence that I would be posting these images during International Baby Wearing Week as well as the same week Motrin was asked to pull an advertisement that rocked the baby wearing world as it falsely represented baby wearing. (Thankfully they did.)

Aside from that, Alma and I were both super excited when we were contacted for permission to use an image that I took of she and Katherine last year for the cover photo for Parenthood Magazine-Malaysia 2009. How COOL is that? What’s cooler to me is that last year Alma had this image enlarged so I already know how much it means to her.

here are the cover girls 1 year ago:

kelsey & john - houston, tx

I recently had the opportunity to work with Seattle based John Crozier while he was in Houston shooting Kelsey and Jonathan’s Wedding. Kelsey and Jonathan were just adorable and SO much fun to work with. I love the simplicity of their wedding –and- the fact that it was on a Monday. Such a great reminder that weddings, whether it be on a weekday or weekend, on a beach or in church, can be anything you want it to be.

That said, I love meeting and working with other photographers. As photographers go, John and I shoot very differently—and I mean that only in a positive and admirable way. What’s great is that we love what we do and we are passionate about the way and style we work our own images. He’s fantastic- and amazing when it comes to off camera lighting. I, for simplicity, tend to take advantage of natural light and not until the sun goes down is when I actually reach for my flash. John danced circles around me in with his light stick and all the tricks and techniques he had up his sleeve. I was fascinated as I am just starting to dabble with this aspect of photography. You can check out all of John’s cool lighting tricks on his blog. I usually don’t talk about the technical side of photography, but just wanted to note that all my images in this post were all done without any on camera or off camera flash. Just a random tid-bit if you will…

So thank you John for the opportunity to work with you, learn from you, and to meet and photograph Kelsey and Jonathan. (Are you missing Whataburger yet?)

and you know me and my love for action pictures… it’s not the usual type… I snagged this from John’s blog. :) I’m in the background following the bride and groom

    Dallas, TX - Family Session

Okay, I know it’s been a wee bit since I’ve posted. Bleh- I’ve been sick, and quite whiny about it so I’ve spared you by not whining about it here. (however if you follow me on facebook or twitter you have for sure seen it ten-fold!)

Back on topic. Abigail. In the strange internet world we live in- I actually met Abigail over 2 years ago but this session was the first time for us to meet IRL. (In real life.) Strange and surreal since we know each other SO very well… in the course of these last years we have spend HOURS on the phone. We share the love for The Container Store and overpriced vacuums… kindred spirits I tell you!

So I was of course flattered that at my first mention of coming into town to photograph another session, Abigail hopped on board to have me photograph her family. I was honored at the request. Our session was so much fun to be able to “really meet each other” and I was in awe on how adorable and well behaved her kiddos were. Perhaps because I don’t have boys I’ve got a generalized idea of what boys this age act like… but they were quite opposite. SO polite, SO behaved, and SO SO SO precious! Little Ava takes the cake as the cutest cuddliest baby. During our session Paul was an A+ daddy and took the little ones for a walk so Abigail and I could chit chat- little did she know I was so prepared to take some photos of just her. “um. ahhh.. I wasn’t expecting this…” HA! I think all woman- (especially moms) should have some photos of just themselves. It’s such a unique time in our lives where everybody else matters and sometimes it is just too easy for a mom to stop and not think about herself for once. So I loved putting Abigail on the spot for these. :) I think she did a terrific job!

Abigail- it was AWESOME finally “meeting” you and your family. Look forward to seeing you in a few short weeks! To many more IRL meeting’s for the future…
